Please Don’t Read This

Are you someone who usually skips the introduction? Then why are you here?
My hope is that you’re reading this a long time from now and that you found your way here because saw one of my later posts that went viral and shot across the internet like a clusterbomb and were wondering, what’s up with this guy?
Even better, you found me after devouring one of my books (of which, by the time you read this, there will be many!) and you’re thinking, how odd, I wonder what his non-fiction is like? or maybe just note to self, it would be cool to know when his next book comes out.
On the other hand, it’s possible you’re seeing this a couple of weeks from now and you’ve already finished everything else on the page. If that’s you—congratulations! And thank you.
If you’re here because you’re wondering what to expect and trying to figure out if it’s worth allowing yet another Substack to take up more space in your precious inbox, I don’t know what to tell you, other than, I sympathize.
Some things I might write about: my books, other people’s books, movies, television shows, interesting research, interesting snippets from daily life, technology, society, and basically anything that inspires or influences me.
My favorite kinds of books are literary thrillers of all types.
I promise not to write about politics (don’t we have enough of that?) except that it’s really not possible to not write about politics, because everything is political, isn’t it?
My first novel, August in the Vanishing City is about a divided island, an abandoned city, and a young soldier who will stop at nothing to recover a keepsake to win the heart of his childhood love.
My forthcoming novel Lifeboat (working title) is a dystopian thriller that grapples with the chaos and uncertainty that engulfed the world during the summer of 2020. Set against a backdrop of unrelenting political turmoil, economic collapse, cults, environmental disasters, and the harrowing persistence of a never-ending pandemic, Lifeboat offers a stark reflection on the fragility of society and the resilience of people confronted with the most overwhelming adversity.
I also write about climate change, the global water crisis, peak oil, food, regenerative agriculture, cities and urbanism, human rights, and related topics—so don’t be surprised if those themes come up too.
Leave a note and let me know what you think. I take requests. I’ll be here all night.
